Historical novel based on Rachel Pomié Petit Pissarro, the mother of painter Camille Pissarro. Growing up in a Jewish refugee community on St. Thomas in the 1800s, strong-willed Rachel dreams of Paris, and after her older husband dies she begins a forbidden love affair with his younger nephew, causing a scandal that shapes her family.
